The Pathway to Healing
When you learn how to open or release
your spine, healing takes place on all layers of
your being. Chronic backache and various pains start letting go, and
your whole body
begins moving with greater ease and grace. Energy that was once trapped
in deep
muscular tension is freed up to flow again, bringing you more energy
and vitality.
The physical opening, engendered by releasing
the spine, naturally draws a person's
awareness back inside the body - it's comfortable to 'be
in one's own skin'. A tight,
pain filled body on the other hand, is more apt to make a person want
to numb out from
the discomfort - thereby disconnecting the mind from the body. If we
make lifestyle
choices disconnected from the body, it often leads to greater pain,
if not immediately,
then at some point down the line. Yoga means
union, and one of its purposes is to
reintegrate the mind and body, so that the two can live in harmony,
mutually supporting
each other and bringing renewed wholeness to one's being.
As we continue to release the core tensions
in our spine, we begin to feel not only more comfortable in our own
skin, but find it easier to settle more into our bones, the cells,
the very interiority of our own body. This deeper release and softening
at a physical level,
naturally draws our awareness even further inside to that which goes
beyond the physical
and into the very nature of our own Being, to that which is the deepest
Essence of who
we are. Yoga calls this the 'Self',
with a capital S; that which is the Eternal, the Source
of all there is. When we begin to live more and more from this place,
we begin to
experience profound levels of understanding, deeper levels of joy, contentment
and peace.
Thus
the opening of your spine creates an opening
in your emotional, mental, and spiritual being. Old
habits and thinking patterns that no longer serve you
become easier to let go of. Your own sense of 'Self'
widens and expands allowing for the release of
self-limited thinking that keeps you from being and
expressing your true 'Self', true
nature and purpose.
A deeper sense of inner connection opens the heart
from the inside out making is easy to feel compassion
for oneself, for others, and for all that exists.
The return to the 'Self'
is the highest goal of yoga's
path - 'Moksha', freedom from the
limited bounded
self, the dissolving of duality, the bursting into pure
Being, Consciousness-itself...All-That-Is.
In a nutshell...to true happiness!
